Ethan Burns

Ethan Burns is a specialist in energy efficiency and renewable energy for residential strata buildings with over 25 years' experience across the energy and built environment sectors. Holding a Bachelor of Engineering with First Class Honours (1999), he began his career in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution before transitioning into energy efficiency consulting in 2010, when he founded Sustainability Now Pty Ltd. For the past 15 years, the business has focused specifically on the unique sustainability challenges facing multi-residential buildings.

Ethan has been an accredited NABERS for Apartment Buildings assessor since 2018, and has held a supervisor role since that same year — providing nearly a decade of hands-on experience with the scheme's assessment methodology and compliance standards.

He has been the primary consultant for the City of Sydney's Smart Green Apartments and Green Building Grants programs, and has also worked closely with Waverley, Randwick, and Ku-ring-gai Councils on their sustainability initiatives. This work has involved assessing and advising across a large, diverse portfolio of apartment buildings, giving him deep practical proficiency in strata sustainability, energy performance, and multi-residential building compliance.
